From an iPhone scan
to a custom orthotic.

Capture a patient's foot in 10 seconds with our iPhone app, accurate to under 0.2 mm with no added scanner. Prescribe the modifications, click send, and we verify, fabricate and ship a custom orthotic in ~2 days.

The workflow

Three steps. One iPhone.

No plaster, no foam boxes, no waiting on the mail. Scan the foot, set the prescription, and we build and ship the pair.

Step 01

Scan with the iPhone you own.

Sweep the iPhone around the foot for ten seconds. Our own scanning engine fuses about 150 depth frames into a 184,000-point mesh right on the phone, accurate to better than 0.2 mm, then measures length, width and arch height for you.

Step 02

Prescribe the zones.

Start from an Rx template for the pathology or build from scratch. Set firmness zone by zone from 30A to 60A Shore, add posts, pads and reliefs from the modifications library, and every change renders live on that patient's foot model.

Rx templates 30 to 60A Shore 26 modifications
Step 03

We print, check and ship.

Your prescription becomes a one-piece printed orthotic, every correction built into the top surface and the density map. Our lab checks the landmarks and geometry before fabrication, and the pair ships to your clinic in about two days. Reorders reprint identical from the same file.

Scan accuracy

Lab-grade accuracy from the phone you already own.

We built the scanning app ourselves on the iPhone's TrueDepth camera, the structured-light system Apple designed to map faces with sub-millimeter precision at arm's length. A foot at scanning distance sits in the same range. The sensor measures depth directly with infrared light instead of estimating it from photos, so it works in any exam room with no extra hardware.

Our scanning engine

How 150 frames become one foot.

A scan isn't a single photo. It's a stream of depth frames merged into one model in real time, on the phone. The tracking and fusion engine underneath is our own, written in-house and purpose-built for feet.

01

Project & measure

The TrueDepth module projects about 30,000 infrared dots onto the foot and reads how the pattern deforms. That gives true measured depth at every pixel, roughly 15 frames per second, in any lighting.

02

Track the sweep

As your hand moves, our tracking engine locks every new frame onto the growing model. The phone's motion sensors provide the first guess and GPU-accelerated ICP does the fine alignment, so errors never stack up from frame to frame.

03

Fuse & cancel noise

Frames don't replace the model, they vote into it. A volumetric distance field keeps a running weighted average of millions of depth samples, and the random noise in any single frame washes out in the average.

04

Mesh & measure

The fused surface is extracted at sub-voxel precision into a 184,000-point watertight mesh; heel, metatarsal heads and arch are auto-detected and every Rx measurement is derived on-device, before the scan leaves the room.

Auto-measurements

Measurements you never have to take.

Every scan comes back with the numbers already filled in. Our software finds the anatomy on the mesh and takes the measurements for you, the same way on every foot, every time.

01

Find the anatomy

A recognition model we trained ourselves locates the key landmarks on every scan: the heel, the first and fifth metatarsal heads, and the arch. It runs on the phone, in seconds.

02

Measure the geometry

The numbers come from the 3D mesh itself, not from a photo or an estimate. Foot length, forefoot and heel width, and arch height are computed straight from the measured surface between the landmarks.

03

Check before we build

Every order is reviewed at our lab before fabrication. If a landmark looks off on an unusual foot, we correct it by hand before anything is printed.

Benefits

Orthotics used to take weeks.

Traditional orthotics mean plaster/foam impressions in the mail, weeks of lab turnaround, and a patient who is waiting close to a month. An accurate iPhone scan plus our fabrication does the same job in ~2 days.

Traditional lab

Mail it out, wait it out.

2 to 3 week turnaround: foam boxes and plaster casts shipped to an off-site lab.
$100 to $140 per pair in lab fees and shipping before your margin.
Remakes ship both ways: every adjustment is another week lost.
Expensive scanners or messy casting just to capture the foot.
The lab owns the data: scans and files live outside your practice.
3DScanOrthotics

Scan, send, and fit in days.

Fast turnaround: scan today; we fabricate and ship right away.
Simple per-pair pricing: no lab markup games, healthy margin you keep.
Re-order in a tap: adjust the Rx with no re-casting or foam boxes.
No scanner to buy: scans run on an iPhone you already own.
You own every scan and Rx: patient data stays in your practice.
By the numbers

What changes when the scanner is a phone.

No capital equipment, no plaster in the mail, no waiting weeks. The workflow, measured.
